This Safeguarding Policy outlines our commitment to creating a safe environment where all participants, particularly vulnerable adults, are protected from harm, abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
This policy aims to:
Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants, staff, and volunteers.Provide clear procedures for identifying, reporting, and addressing safeguarding concerns.Promote a culture of respect, accountability, and zero tolerance for abuse.Comply with relevant laws, regulations, and best practices in Ireland.
This policy applies to:
All employees, contractors, volunteers, and trustees of Autism Pathways Ireland.Anyone engaged in activities or services provided by or on behalf of Autism Pathways Ireland.
Our safeguarding policy is guided by the following principles:
Empowerment: Support individuals to make their own decisions and provide informed consent.Prevention: Take proactive measures to prevent harm and abuse.Proportionality: Respond to safeguarding concerns appropriately, respecting individuals’ rights and dignity.Partnership: Work collaboratively with participants, families, and external agencies to safeguard individuals.Accountability: Ensure transparency and accountability in all safeguarding practices.
Vulnerable Adult: A person aged 18 or over who may be at risk of harm due to factors such as age, disability, or circumstances.Abuse: Includes physical, emotional, sexual, financial, discriminatory, or neglectful actions that cause harm or distress.
Oversee the implementation of this policy.Act as the primary contact for safeguarding concerns.Liaise with statutory agencies when necessary.
Understand and follow the safeguarding policy.Report concerns promptly.Complete safeguarding training as required.
Ensure Autism Pathways Ireland fulfills its safeguarding responsibilities.Support the DSO in implementing the policy effectively.
Recognize: Be alert to signs of harm, abuse, or neglect.Respond: Take immediate action to ensure the safety of the individual.Report: Notify the DSO or a designated alternative as soon as possible.Record: Document concerns factually and objectively.Refer: If necessary, the DSO will refer the matter to relevant statutory authorities.
All safeguarding concerns will be handled sensitively, ensuring that information is shared on a need-to-know basis and in compliance with data protection laws.
All staff, trustees, and volunteers must complete safeguarding training. Regular updates and refresher courses will be provided.Safeguarding information will be made available to all participants and their families.
Any allegations will be taken seriously and investigated promptly.Staff or volunteers under investigation may be suspended to ensure the safety of others.Investigations will follow fair and transparent procedures, respecting all parties involved.
This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if required by changes in legislation or best practices. Feedback from participants, staff, and external stakeholders will be incorporated into revisions.
